Family: Pinaceae

Species: sylvestris

Common names: Scots Pine

Pinus sylvestris

Pinus sylvestris is a stately tree reminiscent of wild places it is easily recognised by it's orange bark which appear high in the branches.

Whilst known commonly as the 'Scots Pine', Pinus sylvestris is the only native pine to Britain with Scotland representing the tree's most Westerly location, natural populations continue eastwards as far as North East Asia.

Not really a tree suited to gardens it is often used to form a very effective shelter belt against the worst of the UK's weather.
