Jasminum officinale

Jasminum polyanthum

Family: Oleaceae

Genus: Jasminum

Species: officinale

Common names: Jasmine, Poet's Jasmine

Jasminum officinale

When in full flower the scent from this beautiful late summer flowering plant is intoxicating. Train it with the help of wires over a wall or pergola or perhaps around a bedroom window where the scent can waft in on a cool summer's evening.

Be sure to give it a sunny location if you want it to flower and plenty of room to spread. Once established this is no shrinking violet but it can be a little tender so a wee bit of shelter is always beneficial.

Like many climbers it will do best with its head in the sun but with its feet in the shade so give it a good organic soil (not too rich) and shelter its roots from direct sunlight.
