Embothrium coccineum

Family: Proteaceae

Genus: Embothrium

Species: coccineum

Common Name: Chilean Fire or Flame Bush

Embothrium coccineum

Embothrium coccineum is a must for anyone with a warm coastal garden or a large city garden.

Embothrium coccineum requires just a little shelter and a deep moist soil free from alkalinity. Although a tender shrub don't be tempted fuss over it and heap on the fertiliser. The roots are easily burnt so for best results, treat it mean.

In late spring and early summer the plant will put of a firery show of tubular flowers ranging from orange to bright scarlet.

During mild winters leaves will remain on the plant but if cold spells persist the plant may well shed all its leaves to survive.
