Family: Fumariaceae / Papaveraceae
Genus: Dicentra
Species: formosa
Syn: D. eximia
Common names: Dutchman's breeches, Wild bleeding heart
The delicate fern like leaves and arching pink flowers make Dicentra formosa a firm favourite of mine for woodland gardens and damp soil.
I think Dicentra formosa looks most at home in dappled shade amongst trees and shrubs where it will thrive and spread.
Dicentra formosa flower in late spring and early summer and are very well suited to our cooler Scottish climate. Lucky us!
