Family: Rosaceae
Genus: Cotoneaster
Species: horizontalis
The 'grow anywhere' nature of Cotoneaster horizontalis makes it an extremely useful plant for covering banks or growing against a wall.
The flowers that appear in late spring are relished by honey bees which bustle from one flower to the next. Whilst the plant will live in shaded locations flowering is best in full sun.
Later in the year its recognisable herringbone structure becomes laiden with bright red berries which survive as the plant sheds its leaves in a display of autumn reds and orange.
