Family: Hyacinthaceae /Liliaceae
Genus: Chionodoxa
Species: forbesii
Cultivar: 'Pink Giant'
Common Name: glory of the snow
Chionodoxa forbesii 'Pink Giant' is named not for its height (which is insignificant) but to mark the size of its large flowers, and, not surprisingly their colour. Whilst not unusual in itself, in early Spring most bulbs are blue or white and this pink cultivar makes for an attractive change.
A strong stem of large, star shaped, pale pink flowers with a white centre rise proudly from glossy strap like leaves in early Spring and put on a good show for several weeks.
Chionodoxa forbesii 'Pink Giant' easily naturalise in woodland and rock gardens. As with most small spring bulbs Chionodoxa forbesii 'Pink Giant' look best planted en masse where they can form large drifts without getting lost.
And again, like most other small spring bulbs, they work equally well in raised planters and as feature rockery plants.
