Family: Berberidaceae
Genus: Berberis
Species: thunbergii
Cultivar: 'Roseglow'
Common names: Barberry
Berberis thunbergii 'Roseglow' is recognised by its mottled red, pink and white young foliage which fades to red-purple with age.
Red berries appear in autumn and small yellow flowers appear in late spring. Not the best Berberis for autumn colour Berberis thunbergii 'Roseglow' excels during the summer months where the shrub takes on a pale purple hue.
As with the other members of this species Berberis thunbergii 'Roseglow' is a tough character able to be located in all but water-logged soils. Avoid deep shade as well as this will adversely effect the colour of the leaves.
Reaching around 1.5m height and spread Berberis thunbergii 'Roseglow' is a useful mid border shrub that combines well with other red or silver foliage plants.
