Amelanchier laevis give us a tantalising mix of exuberant spring blossom layered over young, fresh bronze leaves.
In summer the leaves green up and in Autumn turn delectable shades of fiery red, orange and yellow.
Edible deep blue fruits are also abundant at the end of summer, apparently sweet to the taste. We have yet to try them for ourselves, but they will attract birds to your garden.
Amelanchier laevis is a woodland native of Northern America.
Laevis means smooth and refers to the smooth surface of the leaves.
