wildlife pond

creating a wildlife haven

A beautiful commission to create a wildlife pond in a rural garden nestled amongst farmland and woodland.

the design brief

Our client desired a pond which looked as if it 'had always been there'. It should be large enough to be seen from the house and contain a majority of native water plants to attract as much wildlife as possible.

the new water garden design

  • the pond :: we worked with Grassroots to build a large organic shaped pond with particularly wide planting shelves for vigorous marginals and bog plants.
  • planting :: we were careful to include mostly native water plants so as not to pollute the surrouding water courses with non-native species and create as natural an effect as possible. A few carefully selected specimins such as Primula florindae add a splash of colour.
  • wildlife :: the pond quickly established with such success that the client has spotted newts, ducks as well as an inquisitive dog otter.
