weeding out the best of the week's garden and design writing
As we countdown to The 2010 Chelsea Flower Show there's been plenty of good writing about the show, from behind the scenes as the gardens are built, to predictions for who will win and the key trends that will trickle down into the world of garden design.
Here's my pick of the best.
- a peak at the gardens - I really enjoyed this article in The Telegraph previewing the gardens. I was at Chelsea with my students building their show garden last week and saw all these gardens as they were constructed. Catching a glimpse of the planting and the detailing as they near completion is very exciting.
- show me the money - With tickets selling out at record speed, Chelsea 2010 is defying the miserable news about the economy. This article in The Guardian reveals that this year has been a bumper year for excessive spending, including a bling-tastic £20million gem stone garden.
- trends - The Guardian also turned out this great interview quizzing five of the designers about this year's key trends and themes. Which, at Chelsea, is always a hot topic.
- inside view - I loved this video of Andy Sturgeon planting The Telegraph Garden. I met Andy a few years ago on a college study tour and he's a seriously nice guy. Here he talks about making his final pant selection and the impact it has on his design. Actually, all the videos in the series are worth a watch.
